    A hard, flat, smooth, highly polished and rectangular shaped court is required for playing  basketball. The surface of Basketball court is usually made of wood or maple and it also vary in sizes.

    COURT SIZES

    For  International Basketball Federation (FIBA) competitions, the court dimention is exactly 28m in length by 15m in width.

    In NBA and NCAA, the courts are slightly large 28.65m by 15.24m.

    In Women National Basketball Association, court size is same as men, s NBA.

    For professional competitions minimum court measurement is 26m by 14m.

    A high school court is comperitively small and its measurement is 25.6m by 15.24m.

    In elementary school level, the size of basketball court is 22.56m by 12.8m

    The minimum height of ceiling is 7m.

    PORTIONS OF BASKETBALL COURT

    The court is divided into two halves by the centre line (mid court line)

    Centre Circle

    At the centre of the court, a centre jump circle is marked. The diameter of centre circle is 12 ft. The game starts when two players came inside the circle and try to push the ball in the players of their own team when referee throws  it in the air.

    Three-Point Field Goal Area(Three-Point Line)

    Three-point field goal area is an arc on a basketball court, marked at a specific distance from the basket. A field goal outside this arc worths 3 points.

    The distance from basketball to three-point line varies according to the level of competition.

    In NBA distance is 6.7m (22ft).

    In WNBA distance is 6.25m (20.5ft).

    In NCAA distanc is 6.32m (20.75ft).

    For FIBA competitions, standard distance is 6.25m (20.5ft).

    In WNCAA, High School and Elementary School level distance from basketball to three-point line is same 6.02m (19.75ft).

    Free Throw Line

    A free throw line is drawn parallel to the baseline from which a free throw is shot. The distance from backboard to free throw line is 15 ft and its width is 8 ft.

    Free Throw Lane

     Free throw lane, key, restricted area, shaded lane and paint, these are the different names of a single section on the court. Free throw lane is a rectangular area underneath the basket that starts from baseline and stretchs to the free throw line (foul line). The length of this area is 19 ft (from baseline to foul line) and its width is usually around 12 to 16 ft. If an offensive player stays on this area for 3 seconds or more than 3 seconds, it counts as a violation.
