    In all sixteen FIBA world championships,the hosting responsibility was awarded to various countries and various venues and locations were used for the competitons.

    1950 FIBA World Championship

    The inaugural championship was held in Argentina,all the games from preliminary round to the final round were organized in Luna Park,Buenos Aires.

    1954 FIBA World Championship

    The 2nd basketball championship was held in Brazil,originally scheduled to be held in Sao Paulo but due to damaged roof in the arena,the competition was shifted to Rio De Janeiro.

    1959 FIBA World Championship

    Chile was the host nation and competition was held in 5 cities Antofagasta, Concepcian, Temuco, Valparaiso, while the final round was arranged in the capital Santiago.

    1963 FIBA World Championship

    Originally The Philippine was the country assigned to oraganize the championship but was taken away as the Philippines refused to issue visas to some countries on political reasons and yet another time Brazil was approached to organize the tournament.

    1967 FIBA World Championship

    The 1967 world championship was hosted by Uruguay,preliminary and classification stages were arranged in Mercedes,Montevideo, Salto and Cordoba and final round was held in the arena “Cilindro Municipal”,Montevideo,having the capacity of 18,ooo.

    1970 FIBA World Championship

    In all previous championshis,FIBA gave the privilege to the American countries,for the first time the competition was held outside South America,in Yugslavia,preliminary and classification rounds were played in 4 cities Sarajevo,Split,Karlovac and Skopje,final phase was held in a 14,ooo seating capacity arena”Hala Tivoli”,Ljubljana.

    1974 FIBA World Championship

    Puerto Rico was the host nation in the 7th international basketball championship,3 locations were selected for the competition Ponce, San Juan and Caguas,final round was played in “Coliseo Roberto Clemente” arena.

    1978 FIBA World Championship

    The championship was held in Philippine,initial stages in “Araneta Coliseum” of Quezon,while semifinals and final game was played in Manila,”Riaz Memorial Coliseum”which had a limited capacity of 8,ooo seats.

    1982 FIBA World Championship

    Colombia was chozen to organize the 1982 FIBA world championship.Group A games were played in Bogota,Group B in Medellin, Group C games in Bucaramanga,classification round in Cucuta and the final in “Coliseo El Pueblo”Cali which could manage to  adjust 18,ooo spectators in it.

    1986 FIBA World Championship

    The 10th  basketball championship was held in Spain,for the first time 7 cities were used for the competition,Zargoza,Ferrol,Malaga and Tenerife for preliminary round,Barcelona and Oviedo for semifinal round and  final round in Madrid,”Community of Madrid Sports Palace”(12,ooo capacity).

    1990 FIBA World Championship

    40 years later,the championship was organized again in Argentina,6 venues were selected to arrange the competition,Santa Fe, Rosario, Cordoba,Villa Ballester,Salta and “Luna Park”of Buenos Aires for the finals. 

    1994 FIBA World Championship

    Originally Yugoslavia was awarded to host the international basketball tournament but because of some political conflicts,Canada was approached as a replacement,all the competition was held in two cities Toronto and Hamilton.

    1998 FIBA World Championship

    Greece was asked to organize the 1998 championship,all the games were played in two stadiums of Athens,”Peace and Friendship Stadium” (14,776 capacity)and “Athens Olympic Indoor Hall” had the capacity of 18,700.

    2002 FIBA World Championship

    This time around the championship was held in United States,in the country extremely passionate about basketball.The whole Championship was organized in Indianapolis,in two arenas “Conseco Fieldhouse” and “RCA Dome”,a huge arena having the capacity to manage the  crowd of 57,980 people.

    2006 FIBA World Championship

    An Asian country Japan was given the honour to host the 2006 world championship,5 cities Hamamatsu,Hiroshima,Saitama, Sapporo and Sendai mutually organized the whole tournament.Final was held in “Super Arena”,Saitama,where 18,500 spectators witnessed the game.

    2010 FIBA World Championship

    The 2010 world championship was held in Turkey,4 cities were picked to organize the tournament,preliminary games were played in Ankara,Izmar,Kayseri and Istanbul,while the knockout phase was scheduled to play in “Sinan Erdem Dome”,Istanbul,having 16,500 seats in it.
