NBA Defensive Player of the Year award is given annually to the player who exhibits great individual defensive skills throughout the season. The winner is selected by a panel of sports writers and broadcasters from the United States and Canada and the voting is conducted at the end of the regular season. The award is not necessarily given to the top rebounder or shot blocker of the season. It can also be awarded to the player who demonstrates throughout the season a great impact on defensive end.
