It is a fact that players never get satisfied with the decisions made by the referees and they always complain about their calls. But there are some decisions that can’t be dubbed tough or worth arguing about, they are just insane from whatever angle you look at them. Here are some of most ridiculous and insane decisions ever made by referees on the court.

Joey Crawford ejected Tim Duncan for laughing (April 15, 2007)

It was probably the worst decision ever in the history of NBA when referee Joe Crawford ejected Spur’s Tim Duncan for simply laughing on the bench. There has to be a solid reason for calling a foul against a player and laughing definitely couldn’t be considered a valid reason for ejection. League also released that decision was inappropriate. So, they suspended the ref for the reminder of 2006-07 season including the playoffs in response to this particular incident and to some similar acts prior to this incidents.

Jake O’Donnell refused to shake hands with Clyde Drexler (May, 9 1995)

There was a feud between Jake O’Donnell and Houston forward Clyde Drexler. The situation aggravated in the first game of the series between Houston and Phoenix when Jake O’Donnell refused to shake hands with Clyde Drexler in pre-game meeting. During the game, Jake called a foul on Drexler. Drexler argued about the decision, then ref called another foul, resulting in automatic ejection of Drexler. The calls were questionable no doubt but the most absurd thing about this whole incident was the Jack O’Donnell’s refusal to shake hands with Drexler. His decision not to shake hand with Drexler was immature and unsportsmanlike as if he is openly admitting that he has a grudge against Drexler. This decision combined with two tough calls made him controversial. After that incident, he never officiated a single game ever, in short, league never assigned him another game.

Ron Garretson ejected Rasheed Wallace for staring (May 20, 2000)

During the Western Conference finals game between Portland and Lakers, ref Ron Garretson ejected Rasheed Wallace for merely staring. Though, it’s completely up to the individual ref to assess what constitutes a misconduct but certainly the penalty was much harsher than the act itself. The decision cost Portland not only the game but the series as well.
