    Flopping means trying to trick a ref by exaggerating a contact and pretending that you have been fouled when actually you are don’t. Flopping has been a real issue of concern in NBA over the years. In 2012, NBA outlined a new flopping policy to prevent the league from such deceit and unsportsmanlike conduct. According to the new rule players will be penalized in following manner.

    As it is difficult to judge a flop on the spot, that is why decision will be made after reviewing videos. Once the game is finished, the provided evidence will be reviewed in the league office, New York from where all the penalties will be issued after determining whether there was any contact or not, what was the intent of the player and was the reaction consistent with the contact. The player who is found guilty of flopping will be punished according to the aforementioned anti flopping rules.

    First Warning Under New Flopping Rule

    J. J. Barea and Donald Sloan were the first players to receive warnings from NBA under the new flopping rule. The flopping instances occurred in the games played on November 2, 2012 while warnings were issued on November 5th.

    First Four Players to be Fined for Flopping in NBA History

    On November 21, 2012, Reggie Evans became the first player to be fined for flopping. He received a penalty of 5,000 for violating NBA flopping policy second time.

    Brooklyn Nets Gerald Wallace was the second player to fined for flopping on December 5, 2012. (NBA fined him for his flop on December 1 against Miami)

    On January 21, 2013, league handed out third flopping penalty to J. J. Barea for his flop against Dallas Mavericks on January 14th.

    Thunder guard Kevin Martin was the fourth player to be fined for his second violation on January 23, 2013. The violation took place on 20th January.
